March 24 - This Day In History

March 24 - This Day In History (A day late - I know)

In 2008 I was desperately in need of an outlet. I had also just finished a writing class that really enabled me to communicate with some parts of me that had been neglected. During this season I also joined a social network setup for graduates of Paterson’s Eastside High School. While reading through the profile of someone that had sent me a friend request, I noticed she listed a website. I disregarded the fact that she dumped me after a few short weeks in high school (she claims it’s the other way around lol), and I visited her blog anyway. Needless to say, I was impressed with what she had to share. I was not surprised since I always knew she would be a success. I took the time to go through her blog roll and came across a very entertaining, exhilarating, exciting, enticing, (and some word that starts with an e and means nasty) blog and immediately added it to my favorites.....................................but not for the nasty parts like beds going through the floor, just the other stuff. His main blog is just as awesome as it keeps me informed of current events. I am amazed at how well he handles two non-junk blogs. He should be paid, and one day soon he will be.

On March 24 of 2009, I was shocked to find that this intelligent woman and this man of God who is artistically diverse, politically enlightened, and Spiritually inclined share a birthday. Call me crazy, but I believe the cosmonautical, literary, karmaneutical, atmosphere created by their day caused another favorite blogger to return from his sabbatical today.

So today as we remember past events of March 24 like;

  • 1837 Canada gives blacks the right to vote
  • 1930 1st religious services telecast in U.S. (W2XBS New York City)
  • 1941 Richard Wright and Paul Green's "Native Son," premieres in New York City
  • 1952 Great demonstrations against apartheid in South Africa
  • 1987 1st Soul Train Music Awards: Janet Jackson, Luther Vandross
  • 2002 74th Academy Awards Oscar Ceremony, Whoopi Goldberg hosts, Denzell Washington and Hallie Berry win lead acting awards,

I would like to just say thanks to the birthday honorees for being great bloggers, and even better people.

SLC. I had no idea you were still blogging until I read your comment in my email notification. I co-sign your sentiments regarding AM, Keith and Rich. Like yourself, I hardly believe these facts to be simple coincidences.

Your birthdate reveals some very significant events in history... and no doubt YOU and your journey through living will only add to the importance of the date.

I too wish you a belated Natal Day, and a year ahead where you'll continueously engage in acts of snatching JOY!

One.
